When printing labels on our press, there are a variety of papers and finishes that we can do, currently most of our labels are printed on semi-glossy paper then coated with an extra gloss. Some are not coated with the extra gloss. Others have a matte finish.
Glossy-super shiny, smooth, you can write on it with asharpiewith dry time
Semi-glossy- somewhat shiny, fairly smooth, you can write on it with asharpie or pen
Matte- matte finish, rough surface, you can write on it with asharpie, pen or pencil
